To maintain peace Ingubo works with a weekly program in which each day has a theme. Besides the activities related to the theme, a warm lunch is served every day and there is always time to play together or ask questions about homework.

PROGRAM

On Monday the mamas talk with the children about what happened in the weekend. In South Africa, most families deal with alcoholism and abuse. It is very important to talk about what happens at home in order to deal with it.  Children are always welcome to talk about their issues with the mamas but on Monday special attention is paid to this.

Monday
'talk to me'

At Ingubo there is a small library where children can choose books and learn how to read. Ingubo wishes to have more books for the children to stimulate the learning process. Being able to read is very important for the children’s future to have a better chance for a job.

Tuesday
'academic classes'

Sport is very important for children because it will develop them physically and mentally. The children will forget their problems and have lots of fun. Playing together makes them learn from each other and teach them to respect each other. The sports day is guided by the volunteers of Stenden and other international organisations.

Wednesday
'sports'

Making music together makes the children very happy. The mamas sing with the children nice songs or they play a CD and dance with them. The songs are both English and Africans to develop the children’s language skills while dancing and singing. Ingubo would be very happy to make music with instruments such as a keyboard, guitar or anything else.

Thursday
'music'
Friday
'computer classes'

In the township of Port Alfred there is a computer room available for Ingubo to teach them about computers. The mamas and children have to travel to come here. Computer classes are very important for children to again increase their chances on a job in the future. One day Ingubo hopes to have its own computer and WiFi system so they don’t have to travel and children can learn more often.
